Weekend Reads: Jan 25, 2014

For those moments when you just don’t know what to do with all your free time.

I’m always a bit skeptical when I see something titled “7 Science-Based Parenting Practices” but I found this Forbes article quite thoughtful.

Over at Love, Joy, Feminism, Libby Ann asks whose opinion should count when it comes to homeschooling practices…the parents doing it or the kids who lived it.  An interesting look in to the politics of religious based homeschooling standards.

Continuing their tradition of taking a break from humor to dip their toes in more serious issues, Cracked.com takes a look at whether or not you should internet shame your kids.

If your looking for something more global, here’s what happened when the Huffington Post asked their staffers in different countries to talk about their parenting experiences.  Spoiler alert: everyone feels guilty.  No one’s sure they’re doing it right.

If someone magically took your kids for a weekend and you have tons of free time on your hands and you’ve already slept a lot and drank all the wine….maybe take a look at the new book “All Joy and No Fun: the Paradox of Modern Parenthood” by Jennifer Senior about some of the research around parental well-being.  I haven’t read it, but the NPR review is here.
