Giveaway: Redefining Girly

Close readers of my posts here on Grounded Parents know that I am a big fan of the work Melissa Atkins Wardy of Pigtail Pals Ballcap Buddies is doing. Several years ago I was struggling to find a voice for something that had been bothering me immensely as a parent to a boy and as a woman who used to be a girl and as an all around feminist human being. That is, the weird (to me) conceptualization of “gender neutral” as typically male, rr if not specifically masculine, certainly not in any way shape or form, feminine. Seriously, I have a draft post over at I’m Just Not Impressed dating back to 2008 trying to articulate this.

The work that Wardy and many of her colleagues in what I short-hand to the girl-power-blogosphere in my head, although it’s so much more than that, has not only helped me voice these concerns, but is also changing the landscape for our kids.

As it happens, I find myself with an extra autographed copy of Wardy’s book, Redefining Girly: How Parents Can Fight the Stereotyping and Sexualizing of Girlhood, from Birth to Tween. Full disclosure, this was swag from an Indiegogo campaign, not something Melissa gave me for this purpose, but she knows this is what I’m doing with it. Also, I am listed in the acknowledgements, but make nothing from this, other than the pleasure of getting a good book on this subject into the hands of more people.

So, with that endorsement from me, personally, not necessarily the other bloggers here at GP or in the Skepchick network, here is the deal: if you want this free copy of the book, you can get up to 5 entries by doing the following:

1. Comment on this post. Easy peasy.

2. Share this post on up to 2 different platforms – Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, your personal blog, wherever, and link to the share here. The share must be public so I can see that you did it. By all means share more than twice, but you only get up to 2 entries for this.

3. Share up to 2 other Grounded Parents posts via any other platform publicly and link back here. You can share the same post 2 different places or two different posts via the same platform. These can be any posts going back to our debut last year. They don’t have to be mine, your share doesn’t even have to be flattering.

I will leave this open until midnight, EDT, Tuesday, September 30. So you have the rest of the month. Then I will write everyone’s handle on a piece of paper once/entry and literally pull one out of a hat or some other receptacle, because I’m all old school like that.

By entering you agree that I can contact you via the email address provided with your comment(s) to get your mailing address. Offer open worldwide (shipping is on me) unless prohibited by law. No purchase necessary. No purchase necessary, yadda yadda, yes I do write these things for a living.

My wife asked if she could read it too.
