Weekend Reads: Baby Finches, Happiness Ratings and Super Powers

Well hello hello!  Welcome to August!  While you’re hear, let’s take a look at what you looking for today?

If you’re looking for….your child’s happiness:

This study looks interesting.  They asked parents to guess how happy their adolescent children were, and then asked the adolescents to rank their own happiness.  It turns out their numbers weren’t always that close together.  There’s a couple possible issues going on here, but it’s a pretty good finding to keep in mind.

If you’re looking for….some racial data:

Interesting study shows why some kids get sent to the doctor, and some get sent to the police.  Spoiler alert: it’s exactly what you think.

If you’re looking for….a super power:

Try being pregnant.  Amusing case reports of new abilities people developed while pregnant.  I definitely had the smell one.

If you’re looking for….a baby finch:

Don’t be a bad parent.  Baby finches don’t like bad parents.

If you’re looking for….a reason to feel old:

Kids today don’t know how the first iPod worked.  Weird to think how much “new” technology will be seen as just “technology” by our kids.

If you’re looking for….some ways of getting girls in to science:

Here’s a few good ideas.
