GP Round Table: Call for Questions

We’re going to start a new, regular feature on GP called the “Round Table,” where I will pose a question to the other GP bloggers, and they will write in a paragraph or so with a response, all in one shared post. There may be questions like:

  • How do you approach the subject of death with your child(ren)?
  • What is your favorite baby/adolescent/teen book?
  • Looking back, is there something you wish you could change since you’ve become a parent?
  • What is one thing about becoming a parent that surprised you?
  • What is your favorite children/teen TV show?
  • What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken with your family?
  • What’s your favorite parenting hack?
  • What’s your favorite recipe that you’ve made for your kids?

Now’s the part where you come in, dear readers. Do you have any questions you would like to pose to the GP bloggers? Please either leave them in the comments or use our contact form to send an email. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

  1. I have a question – Where do you go for solid parenting advice? Websites, articles or books you would recommend? I come from a family where the children did what the adults told them to or they were punished with the belt, shoe, wooden spoon, or whatever happened to be handy. I disagree with this method whole-heartedly and need some advice on raising confident and happy children who are well-mannered and respectful because they want to be, not because I’ve beat them into submission.

    1. We could (and should) do a whole blog post about your question Mr/Ms Peach. But for a quick answer I’ll recommend Aha Parenting (http://www.ahaparenting.com/) for gobs of good advice. Or Raising Happiness (http://raisinghappiness.com/), the online home of Dr. Christine Carter, who has been immensely helpful to me, despite being endorsed by noted quack magnet Dr. Oz. Both places have a lot of helpful advice on how to transition from an authoritarian upbringing like the one you describe to a more peaceful and authoritative style of parenting.
